In this blog Suzanne Johnson shares more about our Yes to Life Helpline and appeals for more volunteers.
Have you ever called Yes to Life? Chances are you will have spoken to one of our dedicated Helpline Volunteers. Our Helpline is manned by trained volunteers every day of the week and aims to provide a point of contact to access our services, and often a lifeline to people who feel their voices are not heard, or who are otherwise isolated. All of our Volunteers have personal experience of Cancer, either themselves or a loved one, and have undergone thorough training.
The result is a service that offers many things to many people, not limited to but including – Help to access practitioners and services via our comprehensive Life Directory, referrals to different services like Wigwam support groups, Cancer Options and counselling, discounts on supplements and items our beneficiaries might need, like infrared saunas.
But at the heart of our Helpline is a compassionate listening ear. How ever you are choosing to treat your Cancer, you won’t find any judgement here, and we will do our best to direct you appropriately.
This feedback from one of our beneficiaries says it all:
“I just want to say a big thank you to you all for the effort you put into bringing love and connection and supportive information to so many people, who otherwise would most likely be free floating. I am abundantly grateful for the support funding to have a health consultation recently and for the connection with people via the helpline. It was a seminal breakthrough to make contact with this network, knowing I wanted a different pathway for help, yet knowing I needed to connect with others on a similar path for solidarity and sharing of resources. It is beautiful to encounter this charity and I want to give you all my heartfelt thanks.” Karen
We are currently looking for patient, compassionate individuals who would like to volunteer on our Helpline. Full training will be provided, and you get access to all Yes to Life events and workshops as our guest. Get in touch with our Helpline Co-ordinator Suzanne by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org if you think this could be a great role for you.
Suzanne Johnson has volunteered with the Charity for a number of years, both on the helpline and with admin support and in 2020 started as our Executive Directors' assistant.
